Writing in Public - Year 1, Month 2, Days 5-20

Michael Salsbury
I am continuing my adoption of Dean Wesley Smith's Writing in Public challenge of the past couple of years.

The last 15 days have not seen the kind of writing productivity that I'm pleased with.  That isn't to say there's been no writing, just not the quantity I hoped and expected to produce.

I wrote a 591 word post for my How to Write Fiction blog, on the subject of character creation, which talks about some things I've learned recently from some far more successful authors.

Three beer reviews were written for my beer blog, totaling 1,091 words.  Two of those reviews are available to read now.  The third will appear in May.

I also wrote a 344 word post for my Windows Desktop Administration blog.

I've continued to develop my science-fiction series launching story, The Mimas Object, but don't feel it's far enough along to start writing yet.

I also began developing a story tentatively titled "Thief of Police" about a pair of career criminals in a future human society who find themselves running afoul of the Chief of Planetary Police and have to make a deal with him for their lives.  I have 652 words of notes and backstory for that one.

I continued my “Opening Line Practice” and came up with only 8 during the 15-day period, which is less than half what I should have.  Those totaled up to 239 words.  My favorite among the ones from this period was:
“As he listened to the music being forced into his ears by the driver in the left lane, he decided that no, it really wasn’t all about that bass, about that bass…”
Admittedly, I took some time to celebrate my birthday in all this, but apart from that there has simply been too little writing.  That needs to change, starting today.
