Writing in Public - Year 1, Month 6, Days 18-31

My adoption of Dean Wesley Smith's Writing in Public challenge continues.

This post outlines the last two weeks in May.

Sadly, not much writing got done during the last two weeks in May.  I've heard writers say that you need to "show up every day and write" even when you don't feel well.  During the last two weeks, I've continued to recover from sinus surgery, battled a sinus infection, a flu, an eye infection, and allergies (which I never had before).  Even as I write this on May 31, I'm still not completely recovered.  There is a lingering cough that continues to plague me.  I have spent more time during this period in bed asleep than awake.  Last week I returned to work, which took most of the energy I had left.

As a result May's writing total was 30,394 words.  Here's how that broke down in terms of the type of writing involved:

• Blogging: 20,657 words (down from 26,681 in April)
• Journaling: 7,568 words (down from 12,974 in April)
• Fiction: 2,194 words (down from 9,871 words in April)

The blogs getting the most attention during May 2015, in order, were:

• Windows Desktop Administration: 6,026 words
• How To Write Fiction: 4,267 words
• Columbus Beer Scene: 4,228 words
• Begin Brewing: 3,425 words

The only fiction I worked on in May was the Alliance of Sentient Lifeforms story The Mimas Object. In April, I worked on that story and one other.

June should see an improved word count.  I should start putting May's illnesses behind me.  Next week, the Origins Game Fair begins.  I often attend several writing seminars during the convention and spend the down time writing and blogging.  That should impact the word count for the month.
