Over the holiday weekend, I loaded up and started playing Doom 3. I didn't bother to finish. It just got too old. Yes, the eye candy is good. Yes, the sounds were good. Yes, there were some basic intellectual challenges. And yes, it got my adrenaline going. But after having just completed Half-Life 2 and Far Cry, it was just too much of the same thing.
The graphics in Doom 3 rank above Far Cry and probably below HL2. The sounds add a level of intensity to Doom 3 that didn't exist in HL2. But overall it felt like too much of the same thing over and over. Walk down a "too dark" hallway, something jumps out at me, I fight, move on, repeat. I played for a couple of hours before getting bored with it.

Since I realize that at least part of my disappointment was related to having just played two other shooters back to back, I will go back and look at this at some point. It would only be fair to play it with a more open mind and a clearer mind.

If I had to rate it right now, it's probably a 7 on a 1-10 scale.
