An interesting FPS...
I need to say this up front, just so we're clear. I don't generally care for first-person shooters as a rule. I prefer a bit more strategy and intellectual challenge than most shooters provide. So Half-Life 2 surprised me a bit at how incredible it was, but then again it had enough intellectual challenge to keep me interested, and lots of nice eye candy. I can't say as much for Far Cry.
The graphics in Far Cry are decent, but don't compare to HL2. The enemy AI didn't seem to be as bright as that in HL2 either. But Far Cry does deliver some solid shoot-em-up entertainment, even if there isn't much intellectual challenge to it. I can't rate it very high, though. In my opinion, what the developers lacked in AI "smarts" in this game they made up by drastically outnumbering you with enemies or ensuring that those enemies are crack shots with superior weapons. I don't care for that kind of a challenge. Once I got to the part where the "Trigen" (genetically altered super-warriors, for lack of a better description) showed up, I started looking for the cheat codes online. The Trigen are way overpowered. 1-2 hits and you're dead. It takes a full clip to kill one, if you hit it in the head the whole time. They can jump farther in one leap than you can run. And the ones that are armed are worse. Most have RPG launcher arms. They fire a round at you and jump about 6 stories in the air in some other direction. You're lucky if they stay in your sights long enough to aim at them, much less kill them. With several of them pounding on you at once in some locations, I don't see how anyone could enjoy slogging their way through without "god mode".

The game's story line starts out a little nebulous, then quickly becomes predictable and stays that way until the end.

On a 1-10 scale, I might given it a 6.5.
